On Tuesday 25th June, a Conference on the subject of Oil Spills in Operations – Maritime and Port Terminals: Legal & Insurance Implications was held for the second consecutive year (ISCO Newsletter N°898 – June 2023) at the Club de Industriales in the city of Tampico, Mexico, on the topic of Oil Spills in Operations – Maritime and Port Terminals: Legal & Insurance Implications.
The conference the Operational Aspects was developed by the ISCO Representative for Latin America (Spanish speaking), Carlos Sagrera, and the Legal and Insurance issues by the specialist Dr. Juan Carlos Rivera, with the following thematic content: Introduction and Presentation (CEO Marterra Group Francisco López Lerma); Recent Spills in Port Terminals (Peru Case – January 2022 and Singapore Case – June 2024); Spill Risks in Mexican Maritime and Port Areas (Recent Case Studies in Mexico & Tamaulipas; The Solution to the Spill Problem (Prevention – NCP & Response – OSROs); International Legal Framework (IMO Environmental Conventions); Legal Implications in Mexico (Environmental Liability Law); Activation of Marine Insurance & Environmental Clauses; Costs of Spills; Stakeholder Awareness).
