The Latin American Society of Marine Oil and Monobuoy Terminal Operators – SLOM, is once again organising in Latin America the XX Conference of Marine Oil and Monobuoy Terminal Operators, which will take place on 11, 12 and 13 September 2024, at the Hotel Enjoy Punta del Este – Uruguay (https://www.jornadaoperadores.slom.co/en). The ISCO Representation in Latin America supports this event with SLOM in the framework of the MOU signed in 2023 during the XIX SLOM Conference in Rio de Janeiro (ISCO Newsletter N°903 – October 2023) and it is considered one of the most prestigious in the region due to the quality and level of the participants. This year also has the peculiarity that it is already 20 years of this activity, which is not a minor achievement of continuity for Latin America. And there are reasons for this.
The organisation and development of this event have contributed to the integration of the operating companies, with suppliers and Latin American authorities, for the benefit of learning lessons learned, experiences and development of new technologies, whose main objective is to make the oil maritime ports safer, more efficient, cleaner and more competitive. One of the founders and current Director of SLOM, Capt. José Perdomo, develops the history and evolution of this organisation in an article in which he reflects on its achievements and objectives, pointing out among other concepts: “…
The commemoration of 20 years of integration highlights an extraordinary achievement in the oil industry. The collaboration between marine and monobuoy operators has set new standards of efficiency, safety and sustainability, serving as a model for the future… Together, we strive to create the best Integration Days for marine and monobuoy terminal operators in Latin America. This approach highlights our shared dedication to collaboration, knowledge sharing and the promotion of best practices across the region. These initiatives not only strengthen our professional relationships, but also foster an environment of continuous learning and constant improvement in our maritime operations… Within the Jornadas event, we highlight Specialised Workshops on current events and technological innovations, designed to explore the latest in advanced solutions and practices in the management of marine terminals and monobuoys… In recent years, SLOM has placed a notable emphasis on the Human Factor and Energy
Transformation, and at the Jornadas, these topics capture significant attention from oil marine terminal operators, who recognise the crucial importance of optimising human resources and adapting to changes in the energy matrix… Another important milestone that SLOM brings to its associate members is Lessons Learned. The Seventh Professional Lessons Learned sharing exercise among SLOM associate members marked a notable milestone in the organisation’s ongoing commitment to excellence and collaboration within the offshore oil terminal industry. This event was notable for facilitating a vital space where operators shared meaningful experiences, innovative strategies and leading practices.
