IOPC Funds expect ratification of 2010 HNS Convention by 2027

The International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (“IOPC Funds”) continues to actively encourage countries to accede to the HNS Protocol, which is a precursor to the entry into force of the 2010 Convention on the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) by sea

Twelve States must accede to the HNS Protocol in order for the treaty to enter into force. Out of that number, eight States have so far ratified the Protocol, with commitments from many other States to do the same. IOPC Funds expects that the 2010 HNS Convention will enter into force in 2027, some 18 months after the criteria have been fulfilled.
