On October 5th 2024, HMNZS Manawanui ran aground around near the south coast of Upolu island, Samoa, during survey work in rough seas and in high winds, fortunately however, all 75 crew survived. Salvors are now nearing the end of a complex and challenging operation to remove fuels and lubricants from the sunken vessel.
