The Malaysian Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, has launched the Mobula 8, an advanced vessel aimed at tackling marine litter.
Manufactured by France’s Efinor Sea Cleaner, the vessel will boost Malaysia’s coastal and offshore water conservation efforts.
The Mobula 8 is a specialised vessel designed to clean rivers, coastal areas, and estuaries, efficiently collecting floating waste using advanced technology. Its deployment highlights Malaysia’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Nik Nazmi said during the launch: “We are proud to introduce the Mobula 8, which marks a crucial milestone in our commitment to marine conservation. With its cutting-edge design and capabilities, this vessel will significantly improve waste management in our waters.”
Efinor Sea Cleaner partnered with VJ Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd, the official agent for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, to bring this solution to the region. The vessel’s retrieval system ensures efficient collection, aligning with global environmental standards.
The Mobula 8 will be deployed in key areas with severe marine pollution, complementing local cleanup efforts and promoting innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Efinor Sea Cleaner will showcase its marine waste collection solutions at InterSpill 2025 at Excel London, Stand A20, from 8-10th April 2025. Representatives from Efinor and VJ Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd will be present to discuss the Mobula 8 and other cleanup solutions.
Additionally, two abstracts from VJ Engineering will be featured at InterSpill 2025. The first, titled “Developing an Educational Framework to Raise Awareness and Reduce Marine Litter,” will be presented during the poster session on 8th April at 11 AM. The second, “Sustaining ESD in Malaysian Primary Schools: Industrial Stakeholder Engagement Framework,” will be discussed on 9th April at 4:30 PM.
