ExxonMobil Oil Spill Response Knowledge Transfer Webinar 16
Please join the EM OSR Knowledge Transfer Webinar series – Webinar 16 that will be held on May 2, 2023. Webinar 16 will be a roundtable discussion with USCG Incident Commanders, hosted by Ed Levine. Details are shown below.
Why Science Matters: How Decision-Makers Use Science During Incident Response
Adm. Peter Gautier (USCG)
Adm. Meredith Austin (USCG, Ret.)
Capt. Roger Laferriere (USCG, Ret.)
Ed Levine (NOAA, Ret.)
Join us for this panel discussion hosted by a senior science advisor talking with three seasoned US Coast Guard Incident Commanders who will share their views and experiences dealing with incidents (large and small) and how science impacted the outcomes. They will discuss the activities and information delivered through the Incident Command System which provides Incident Commanders, the ultimate decision-makers, the data needed to move a response forward. With the end goal of response activities to restore the situation, as expeditiously as possible and without doing additional harm, these senior response professionals will discuss how science translates into decision-makers totality of response to an event. Incident command applies to incidents beside oil spills such as natural disasters, acts of terrorism, chemical release, etc. – all dealing with critical competition for resources. The effects of outside pressures and public perceptions will be addressed. A 15-minute Question & Answer session will follow.
