From 12 to 14 May 2026, the GI WACAF Project supported the organization of a National Workshop on the Revision of Ghana’s National Oil Spill Contingency Plan, hosted by the Environmental Protection Authority, Ghana (EPA) in Accra.
The workshop brought together a wide range of stakeholders involved in oil spill preparedness and response, including national authorities, operational agencies and industry representatives.

Over the three days, participants worked together to review the current preparedness framework, clarify institutional roles and coordination mechanisms in the event of an oil spill, and identify key elements to support the revision of the National Contingency Plan. The discussions highlighted the importance of strong inter-agency cooperation, as effective oil spill preparedness relies on coordinated action between all stakeholders involved. Participants also exchanged on broader preparedness challenges, including legal frameworks and international compensation conventions.
