Global Experts Gather in Montreal for the 2026 International Oil Spill Science Conference

MONTREAL – The International Oil Spill Science Conference (IOSSC) 2026 concluded last week at Concordia University, bringing together over 400 leading experts from 17 countries to address the latest advancements in spill preparedness, response, and environmental recovery.

The four-day event, held from October 13–16, featured more than 250 oral and poster presentations. Attendees, including researchers, government representatives, and industry professionals, participated in a series of keynote addresses, technical sessions, and interactive panels designed to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and operational challenges.

“IOSSC 2026 provided an opportunity to share fresh ideas, useful insights, and connections that will continue well beyond the conference,” the conference committee stated.

A key focus of the event was fostering collaboration across the diverse international community. The program emphasized the inclusion of early-career professionals and students, offering mentorship opportunities and informal exchanges alongside technical discussions.

The conference underscored the ongoing need for science-based decision-making in spill response, with participants expressing optimism that the connections made during the week will support long-term collaborative research.
