“We are pleased to announce that we have recently supplied a large, offshore oil skimming system onboard the K.J. Gardner, 74-metre long oil spill response vessel destined to operate off the BC Coast. Working closely with key WCMRC personnel, Aqua-Guard has custom-designed the oil skimming system specifically for the vessel to be ready on standby in the event of an emergency oil spill.” – Aqua-Guard’s Production Manager (Lee Marshall)
The K.J. Gardner is a final piece of Western Canada Marine Response Corporation’s (WCMRC) program to prepare for the opening of the Trans Mountain Expansion pipeline.
The 74-metre long vessel, which can respond to an area from the Port of Vancouver to Port Renfrew, is packed with state-of-the-art spill-response equipment valued at about $6 million. This includes the Aqua-Guard offshore oil skimming system along over 1,200 metres of offshore containment boom systems.
Aqua-Guard’s RBS TRITON 150 OS Offshore oil skimming system consists of brush and disc recovery modules designed for complete oil viscosity recovery, remote controlled dual 10-inch thrusters for maneuvering the skimmers head into concentrated oil slicks and a heavy-duty pumping system.
The remote hydraulic control console utilizes the vessel’s hydraulic power and operates the 50-metre custom-built floating hose which connects the skimmer head to hydraulic power and the vessel’s oil storage tank.
