Lamor Environmental Protection technology at Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska

Glacier Bay National Park in Gustavus, Alaska, is as a highlight of the Inside Passage and a part of one of the world’s largest protected areas. To protect this pristine environment, the National Park Service is enhancing its proactive environmental measures with support from Lamor’s advanced oil spill response technology.

Glacier Bay National Park is a highlight of Alaska’s Inside Passage and part of a 25-million-acre World Heritage Site – one of the world’s largest international protected areas. Last year, Glacier Bay had over 700,000 visitors, its highest ever, and expects a 5% increase this year. Majority arrive by water, making it one of the most accessible national park experiences in Alaska.

Most visitors never go ashore, visiting on cruise ships or private charter tour boats, increasing the potential for marine incidents. Park managers work with these commercial partners to achieve some of the highest environmental standards in the cruise industry.

The National Park Service is taking a proactive approach to oil spill response with additional equipment, incident command, and operations training. Lamor is proud to have supplied their Rapid Response Deployment Boom Packs, two with 500 feet of Solid Flotation Boom (SFB 18”) and one with 1000 feet of SFB 24” boom that can each be towed upwards of 20 knots to rapidly reach remote spill sites where containment and/or deflection tactics can take place, minimizing shoreline impact if a spill were to occur.
