A note from your (interim) Editor

Hello everyone!  This is just a quick note to introduce myself and to provide some more detail about the new direction we are hoping to go with the ISCO news.

Firstly, a note about my predecessor, John McMurtrie, who I knew from my ocasional contributions to the ISCO News.  I spent a lot of time in Africa and became familiar with many of the proverbs, but I have to say the one that fits best is the one about never understanding a man or what he does until you have walked a mile in his shoes.  John did a remarkable job in producing the News for many years but made it look easy – it isn’t – and my appreciation to John for all the work he did in preparation for the transition.

I won’t go into detail about my background, suffice it to say that I have worked all over the world for various oil & gas companies mainly in environmental management in the downstream, retail marketing and marine transportation areas including responding to oil spills as well as having a corporate governance qualification.   If you want more (or are just curious) its all at     linkedin.com/in/robert-rob-cox-8baa7230

Secondly, with the help of our IT whiz Mike Watson, we are currently pushing out the News fortnightly on a Wednesday.  I am gradually trying to make the News wider and more international and hopefully you have started to see this reflected in the content, we do however rely on you to feedback to us on what you want to see: email us at: [email protected].

Lastly, if there are any live local issues that you are aware of we always like to hear them, however when submitting articles and photographs, we MUST have copyright permission from the owner of the image or text to republish.  We frequently get told “Oh, nobody worries about that here” but copyright is a global issue, and we cannot publish on a local basis: ISCO has twice been fined for copyright infringement and it was costly!

Thank you for reading the ISCO News and keep in touch!

All the best

Rob
