Enhancing Global Spill Response: OSRL’s Newest Base and Capping Stack in Guyana

OSRL, a leading industry-funded cooperative dedicated to oil spill response, has established a new base and commissioned a cutting-edge capping stack in Guyana in 2024. This state-of-the-art equipment, designed and built by Trendsetter Engineering, significantly enhances OSRL’s mission to bolster global oil spill response capabilities.

The newly commissioned capping stack, stationed at the Guyana Shore Base Inc is one of six provided by OSRL to the industry and one of only two in Latin America. This critical asset is part of a newly established Guyana regional capping stack service.

The system includes a lightweight Capping Stack, Subsea Dispersant kit, and Heavy-Duty Shears for debris removal.

The development of the new base in Guyana aligns with OSRL’s long-term strategy to enhance operational capability for its members while supporting the development of an integrated response function within the Americas region. Looking ahead, OSRL plans to expand its in-country capabilities, including enhancing surface and dispersant response capabilities as part of a more comprehensive emergency response offer.

OSRL continues to reinforce collective efforts to remain ready to respond in the event of an oil spill, ensuring that its members and the wider industry benefit from the latest advancements in spill response technology.
