Company History

CRUCIAL Inc. is a Louisiana Corporation which both manufactures and distributes oil spill containment and recovery equipment. CRUCIAL was founded in 1991 by Wallace (Wally) Landry as a full line supplier of oil spill abatement products. Landry is the former owner of Oil Mop, Inc., and has been in the pollution control field since 1978. CRUCIAL was formed as a marketing, manufacturing, and distributing entity to service the growing need for oil spill control equipment worldwide.

Equipment Manufacturing

Drawing on his experience in the oil spill industry, Landry developed CRUCIAL's well known line of oil skimmers, hydraulic power units, boom reels, pumps and accessories. This proven and time tested equipment has become the basis of CRUCIAL's success in the industry and continues to be a vital component of any oil spill response scenario. Landry further improved on his line of skimmers with the development of the "fuzzy" coating, an Oleophilic coating that has been proven to drastically improve the recovery rate of floating oil.

Innovation

CRUCIAL first began manufacturing of the ORD Oleophilic Disc Skimmers in mid - 1993. CRUCIAL hascontinually improved the design of disc and drum skimmers. CRUCIAL, Inc's patented "fuzzy technology" has proven to be a game-changer. It's increased recovery rate has been recognized and certified by the USCG as among the highest recovery rates of any technogy. Additionally CRUCIAL has designed the Magna ORD, which has multiple sets of oil recovery discs, thereby having greater recovery capacity for larger, offshore spills.

Another CRUCIAL innovation to complement the state-of-the-art skimmers is Viscous Sorbents. These sorbents are basically "one-time use" (disposable), and are designed for the thicker, more viscous oils such as weathered crude or "chocolate mousse." The sorbents are manufactured in two forms, Moppets (which resemble cheerleaders' pom-poms), and Viscous Sorbent Boom (which are pom poms attached to long lengths of ropes). The Moppets are used for manual recovery of small pockets of oil, and the Viscous Sorbent Booms are used along shorelines.
